Late Night Tales Review
Unavailable in the U.S.! In early 2006, the Scottish Indie-Pop ensemble Belle & Sebastian contributed an eclectic mix to the Late Night Tales series. While some selections are clearly kindred spirits to the Glasgow-based band's often-delicate sound, most notably Big Star's gentle "Watch the Sunrise" and Donovan's proto-twee "Get Thy Bearings", many acts represented on this set stray far from B&S territory, including Electronica artist RJD2 ("Here's What's Left"), Jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis ("Uhuru"), and Classic Rock's joking/smoking Steve Miller Band ("Fly Like an Eagle"). The compilation also presents Belle & Sebastian performing an exclusive track--the light "Casaco Marron"--which, of course, serves as the main draw for the group's devoted fans.
